Both Lara and her villainous counterpart, Matthias (Walton Goggins) are fantastic characters who have a really interesting dynamic throughout the film, but I'd like to see Vikander spread her wings and Croft become the full-fledged action hero that Indiana Jones already was in his first outing. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is a 2001 action adventure film based on the Tomb Raider video game series featuring the character Lara Croft, portrayed by Angelina Jolie. An international co-production between the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and Germany, it was directed by Simon West and revolves around Lara Croft trying to obtain ancient artifacts in competition with the Illuminati. This is, essentially, a female-led Indiana Jones. It should become a blockbuster franchise and in a just universe, Vikander would become a huge star in the process.

If only we didn’t need the sequel to give us the movie we wanted to see. Even bogged down by origins, there is a bit of letting “Croft be Croft.” I hope we get a sequel, because the world needs more female-led action franchises, and I want to see more of this Croft in full-on adventurer mode. It offers a great female action hero with has a wry sense of humor and the ability to run with Tom Cruise-like intensity. Tomb Raider  is a solid action flick and a decent video game adaptation. Lara’s characterization in this movie functions as a more grounded, somewhat sarcastic, and slightly less serious version of her character in the 2013 Tomb Raider game. As Lara sets out to find the lost city of Kitezh beneath Russia, she employs an impressive arsenal of weaponry to complete the task. I’ve played a number of the older games, and really really loved the recent reboot of Tomb Raider (the game that this movie adapted) and Rise of the Tomb Raider. The 13 Best Tomb Raider Games, Ranked According To Metacritic. (Forbes film critic Scott Mendelson mostly liked the film, and gave it a very fair shake, praising its star above all else.) In a separate review, Mendelson makes the very smart observation that the film might have been better-served skipping the origin story stuff and just moving on to Croft as an action hero: With an increased emphasis on gameplay combat, Rise of the Tomb Raider is the second-highest-rated game in the franchise to date, per Metacritic. Many, if not most, video game adaptations are not. I'm not sure why critics didn't like the film, to be honest. Instead of trying to figure that out, I just want to spread the good word. For better or worse, we never see Vikander swimming in blood in the film. The first Tomb Raider movie was released in March 2018, but even before the world got to see a more grounded portrayal of Lara Croft, Academy Award-winning actress Alicia Vikander made it clear. Sometimes that's what action heroes are all about. This is from the game. I don't relate to James Bond or John Wick. I certainly do not want fucking Nathan Drake to steal her "smug, snarky wisecracker in the face of danger" persona so she has to be reinvented as a "relatable" woman. I do not want a "cornered animal" who gets terrorized by rapey thugs (looking at you, Tomb Raider reboot). She throws herself into ridiculous danger (and honestly, kills the shit out of bad guys and wildlife alike) just because she's independently wealthy and has nothing better to do. List of the best movies like Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001): The Mummy, Kung Fu Yoga, The Myth, Monster Hunter, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Dragonball Evolution, Chinese Zodiac, In the Name of the King III, The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec. Now 21 and struggling to make her way in. If I see a Tomb Raider movie, I want to see a rich, brilliant, athletic, gun-totting ass-kicker who raids tombs not because she has to or needs to, but because she wants to. Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer, lost to her when she was barely a teen. You want a strong female character? That's Original Lara Croft (not the weepy one that apologizes to the deer she kills)! She doesn't need to be "woke", she doesn't need to be "softened" or made "realistic".

A new fan poster reimagines Emily Blunt as Lara Croft in the aftermath of MGM losing the franchise's rights and Alicia Vikander exiting the character. Lara is an amazing poster child for "needs no man" yet there is always a need of late for some reason for writers to give her a love interest, a daddy figure or male mentor. Tomb Raider 2 Fan Poster Recasts Lara Croft With Emily Blunt. She shouldn't be "conflicted" or need to "find her strength". She should be a combination of James Bond, Indiana Jones and John Wick. Men want her, women want to be her, but she just does what she does and fuck anyone in her way. She should be snarky, she should be confident. Lara Croft, the worlds most famous video-game heroine, bursts onto the big screen in. IMO, like the games, a Tomb Raider movie needs a Lara who is big, badass and absolutely awesome.
